North Carolina - Statesville Traditional Scottish Session - Statesville, NC We meet once a month on the 3rd Thursday at 7:30 pm until 9:00 or so in the Gallery at the Iredell Arts Council, corners of S. Meeting and Court Streets, Statesville NC. All acoustic instruments are welcome, and all skill levels. Our goal is to learn Scottish music; to be able to play it for our own enjoyment, for performances and for dances. Music is provided for those who don't know the tunes, both in musical notation and fiddle tab. If you need music, its okay with us. If you play by ear, that's okay too. We have a nice variety of instruments represented including fiddle, guitar, mandolin, bass, bouzouki, bodhran, box, harp, whistle, flute, and more. We have all levels of musicians, and a large number of youth musicians. Recording the session is encouraged to help learn the tunes. At a typical meeting we will have some instruction/discussion of "music played the Scottish way"; share some new recordings that are out, or mention events happening in the area. New music is emailed out the week before the meeting so members can play through the tunes if they choose. We play through the new tunes, with opportunities for people to record if they choose to. Then we have a round robin session, with each person calling out a tune they want to hear or can play, joined by everyone. To be notified of this session and up coming events, email us to be added to our email list - sent out twice monthly with the local Scottish and Irish Sessions times and locations, plus any concerts, workshops or events in the area that might be of interest.
